Nokia G50 5G phone costs $300, comes with two years of OS upgrades

A new Nokia midrange phone will soon be available in several global markets, including the US. In the price range of $299, the G50 has a 6.82-inch HD+ display, a large battery, an audio jack, and an 18W fast charger that makes it a competitive midrange phone.

This G-Series phone resembles the Nokia X-20 announced in April 2021, the G50 however has a larger screen and a battery as well as coming in a version that’s specifically designed for North American markets (AT&T and T-Mobile). Due to its slower 5G Sub 6 support, it will only work on T-Mobile’s 5G network, not Verizon’s mmWave network, and will only be compatible with AT&T’s 4G network.

Nokia G50 isn’t going to deliver the smoothest gaming experience or the fastest performance like other 5G smartphones in the $300 range with Snapdragon 480-based processors. This device has 4GB RAM, 128GB storage, and a microSD card slot so that you can sideload applications or back up your photos.

Nokia’s G50 has a slightly bigger 6.82-inch HD+ display that offers 450 nits of brightness and a notch that surrounds its 8 – megapixel camera on the front, in comparison to Motorola’s identically named G50.

It features a triple-camera array, arranged in a circle on the back. While you’re most likely to use the 48-megapixel standard camera, 5-megapixel ultrawide and 2-megapixel depth sensors can add fun perspectives to your shots, but the quality is likely to be noticeably lower.

The device’s front selfie camera also offers video stabilization for boosting blurry videos, as well as a Night Selfie mode for capturing low-light selfies.

Nokia phones are made by HMD Global, the company that makes Nokia smartphones. It is the maker of the Nokia G50 that will ship with Android 11 and receive three years of monthly security updates as well as two years of OS upgrades. Essentially, this budget phone won’t degrade into a brick in a few years, which is good for both the environment and consumers who would like to make the most of their devices before upgrading.

You can choose between Ocean Blue or Midnight Sun for the Nokia G50, which comes preloaded with Spotify and ExpressVPN.

The phone has become available for pre-order on September 22nd on Nokia.com and will ship on September 30th.
